build Added in integrated JSLint checking against the jQuery source. Just run 'make lint' to see the result. 2010-03-01 21:51:44 -05:00
speed Add in a test for testing the performance of event handling. 2010-02-04 22:43:23 -05:00
src Made it so that you no longer need to build jQuery in order to run the test suite (but you'll still need a checkout of QUnit and Sizzle, at least). 2010-06-19 22:29:47 -07:00
test Handle auto-running of the TestSwarm injection script in the test suite. 2010-06-19 22:29:47 -07:00
.gitattributes Force endlines to be just LF (any CRLF is auto-converted to LF by Git). 2009-11-27 11:23:19 -05:00
.gitignore Adding .DS_Store to Git ignore. 2009-12-09 23:49:13 -08:00
build.xml Fixed typo in logic, also disabled function setters in this case to allow the functions to passthrough and bind. 2010-01-12 21:54:06 -05:00
GPL-LICENSE.txt Updated the licensing information. 2006-08-21 19:36:44 +00:00
Makefile Remove the need for the return in sizzle-jquery and just remove the attempt to expose Sizzle completely. jQuery is 100% passing JSLint ('make lint') now. 2010-03-01 21:56:08 -05:00

Rakefile Oops, Rakefile was generating the wrong file. 2010-01-03 12:54:41 -05:00
README.md Removing the mention of buliding the docs from the README. Thanks to 'phihag' in the forum for the heads-up. 2010-03-09 09:16:35 -05:00
version.txt Updating the source version to 1.4.3pre. 2010-02-13 22:33:57 -05:00

jQuery - New Wave Javascript

What you need to build your own jQuery

  • Make sure that you have Java installed (if you want to build a minified version of jQuery). If not, go to this page and download "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0"
    http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp

  • You now have two options for building jQuery, if you have access to common UNIX commands (like make, mkdir, rm, cat, and echo) then simply type make to build all the components.

  • The other option is if you have Ant installed (or are on Windows and don't have access to make). You can download Ant from here: http://ant.apache.org/bindownload.cgi If you do have Ant, everytime (in this README) that I say 'make', do 'ant' instead - it works identically (for all intents and purposes).

How to build your own jQuery

In the main directory of the distribution (the one that this file is in), type the following to make all versions of jQuery:

make

Here are each of the individual items that are buildable from the Makefile.

make init

Pull in all the external dependencies (QUnit, Sizzle) for the project.

make jquery

The standard, uncompressed, jQuery code.
Makes: ./dist/jquery.js

make min

A compressed version of jQuery (made the Closure Compiler).
Makes: ./dist/jquery.min.js

make lint

Tests a build of jQuery against JSLint, looking for potential errors or bits of confusing code.

make selector

Builds the selector library for jQuery from Sizzle.
Makes: ./src/selector.js

Finally, you can remove all the built files using the command:

make clean

Additionally, if you want to install jQuery to a location that is not this directory, you can specify the PREFIX directory, for example:

make PREFIX=/home/john/test/
